Private Event Insurance FAQs
Residents of U.S. may purchase coverage. The Insured/Policyholder must be at least 18 years of age. A honoree will always be defined as an insured on the policy but may or may not be the named insured. The Named Insured can be either of the honorees or someone such as a parent or other family member that has a financial stake in the event. Please note: The Protector Plan® for Events is currently not available to residents of Alaska, Hawaii, & Louisiana.
Should you experience a covered loss, your non-recoverable costs can be as much, if not more, than the cost of an automobile. The quality of your event may depend upon your decision to insure against financial loss. For example, you buy insurance to provide a replacement automobile against unfortunate mishaps. The basic policy (Core Coverage) can reimburse you in case you lose your non-recoverable deposits and purchases if covered circumstances beyond your control cause you to cancel or postpone your event. The Private Event Insurance Policy does not provide coverage in the event that the honoree(s) changes their mind and does not want to proceed with the event.
Yes, deposits you have already made will be covered as long as there is no impending claim or existing claim situation that you have knowledge of when you purchase the policy.
It is recommended that you choose a coverage level equal to the amount you would stand to lose in a worst-case scenario if you were forced to reschedule your event at the last minute. Deposits of the honoree(s) and their “immediate family” could be covered. “Immediate family” is defined in the Special Provisions as the parents, children, and grandparents of an honoree who has paid for or contracted to pay for any item, service or location covered under the policy.
It is important to keep all receipts and contracts in case you must file a claim.
If you have to postpone your event because a commercial transportation shutdown prevents the honorees, parents, grandparents or children of the honorees from getting to the event, you can receive reimbursement for non-recoverable expenses.
Yes. Coverage will apply if there is an unexpected illness, injury or death that prevents the appearance of the honorees, parents, grandparents and children of the honorees. Refer to the policy for full details regarding exclusion of coverage with respect to pre-existing conditions.
If circumstances beyond your control (for example, an unforeseen deployment or withdrawal of leave) cause you to postpone your event, we can provide reimbursement for non-recoverable expenses.
The Protector Plan® for Events makes a distinction between a rainy day and truly severe or catastrophic weather, such as a hurricane. If catastrophic weather causes you to postpone the event, we can provide reimbursement for non-recoverable expenses.
Coverage can be purchased as early as 2 years before your event day and as late as 24 hours before your event. We recommend you purchase coverage as soon as you begin making deposits and purchases for this event. Purchases already made can be covered provided you have receipts for them and you did not know of any impending or existing claim situations when you purchased insurance.
Yes. You can purchase coverage for locations in U.S. and its territories and possessions, Puerto Rico, Canada, United Kingdom, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Turks, Caicos, the Caribbean Islands (excluding Cuba & Haiti) and cruise ships leaving from a port within these territories. There is no additional cost for these locations.
Buying a Private Event insurance policy is as easy as…

Policy premium, taxes, and any other charges are fully earned once the policy is issued with exception of residents of New Hampshire, New York, and Oregon.
Liability Insurance is an optional coverage that can provide coverage for bodily injury, property damage, and personal injuries to third parties at the location of your event. You also have the option to include liquor liability coverage, which protects you from alcohol related suits brought as a result of an intoxicated guest who was served alcohol at an event you hosted. You may add your Venue(s) as Additional Insured at no additional cost.
Liability coverage is an optional addition to your Protector Plan® for Events. However, you may wish to contact the locations where you will hold your event as they may require you to show proof of liability insurance.
Liquor liability coverage may be added to the liability coverage you purchase for a nominal fee. Liquor liability coverage is designed to protect you and your immediate family against alcohol-related accidents. For example, if an accident is caused by an intoxicated guest at the event site, that could result in liability for you. Liquor Liability coverage is available up to the liability limit on the policy.
No, there is no deductible with our insurance coverage. Many of the other event insurance providers have high deductibles.
Yes, the liability endorsement on the private event policy will allow you to name your venue as additional insured at no additional cost.
In most cases special wording is not a problem, however it is recommended you call our customer service line for assistance or email us with the specific language required so we can determine if it is acceptable.
No, the Protector Plan® for Events offers coverage for the Named Insured and the Honorees. The venue is the only entity that can be added as an Additional Insured.
The liability portion of your policy remains in force until 2am the morning following your insured event date.
